flag day yesterday was okay, besides from the boredom and a bit of embarrasment.
my skin became like 5 times thcker after yesterday.
it was kind of difficult at first, not knowing what to say, how to approach them. but after a while, i got used to it. my confidence was also boosted by some kind souls who gladly came forward and donated to me. some even donated 5-dollar notes! a big thank you to you, whoever you are!
however, a majority of the people weren't like this in fact, after 4 hours of selling fla stickers, i found out that there were 3 major ways o in which these people tried to avoid donating.
- pretending to be in a hurry, like as if you are going to miss a bus or train. this was the most commonly used method by people who wanted to avoid donating. it was also kind of easy for them to do so since i was stationed near an MRT station and a bus stop. so try not to do so, if one day, you have the misfortune to do such a task.
- pretending to be engaged in an intense conversation. second most used method. one woman was super funny. she was standing beside her son while going up the escalator, not talking to him at all. then suddenly when she saw me holding my holy can of extortion, she started to talk to her son very quickly about some tests, and her son looked utterly bewildered. seriously, if you don't want to donate, just smile and say no. isn't that a lot easier?
- avoid eye contact. shorter people tend to look down, while people taller than you will tend to look up, pretending not to have seen you or heard you asking them for a donation. people who are about as tall as you will look away or grab their phone and pretend to sms, or just look at a sign behind you.
i don't know why these people don't want to help, but maybe a 10 cent coin is worth everything to them. in that case, i won't mind, but i doubt it is.
omg! yes i think i better start work now. the boy living above me has finally stopped singing or crying! yes! i think he fell asleep! better take this golden chance to do some work!
