so halo 3 is out!!
finally know how it ends cause the storyline was posted up on er...somewhere in a website.
so basically mc lands back on earth and our planet's been ravaged by covenant loyalists, those who stayed loyal to the prophets even after finding out the truth about halo.
the covenant loyalists seemed to have unearthed a huge artifact which was under new mobassa (a destroyed city in africa). mc, commander keyes, a seargant named johnson, and some marines head to an UNSC (united nations space command) outpost. mc is then given orders by lord hood to destroy all covenant air defenses that were set up around the unearthed artifact. he succeeds in completing this task with the arbiter, but thr prophet of truth activates the artifact and opens up a huge slipspace portal, which the covenant loyalist ships escape.
as the humans weigh their options, a flood-infested ship enters earth form the portal, and they spread rapidly through the city. after fighting the flood for a bit, the arbiter, mc and a convenant fleet that escaped from the prophets decides to follow truth through the portal. they arrive at another huge forerunner structure known as the ark, located outside the milky way galaxy. this is the place where all halo rings could be activated by remote. mc and the arbiter push through to the control room, barely in time to stop truth from activating the halos. commander keyes dies when trying to stop truth from using seargant johnson to activate the ring, because the ringsrequired a chosen living being known as a Reclaimer to be activated.
meanwhile, a flood-infested convenant loyalist homeworld teleports to somewhere near the ark. after truth was killed by mc and the arbiter, they find out that a new ring was being constructed, to replace the one mc destroyed in halo 1.
before boarding the new halo, mc decides to go find his AI, cortana and they do so in the covenant loyalist homeworld, high charity. they then blow high charity up, and gravemind, who was on it, was seemingly killed.
mc, the arbiter and seargant johnson board the new halo and they find out that gravemind was still alive. they attempt to fire the unfinished halo to kill gravemind, since it would not send signals to the other halos for them to fire too, so that the whole galaxy would not be destroyed, but only living beings within a specific radius would die. an AI on the halo killed seargant johnson as he tried to fire it, and mc destroys the AI and puts the halo into countdown mode and escapes with the arbiter from the control room in a vehicle, crashing onto an UNSC ship which they use to escape halo. the arbiter mans the ship in the cockpit, while mc and his AI, cortana, control the engine thrusters at the back. while attempting to escape from the slipspace portal they came from, the ship breaks into half because the portal was closing. the half which mc was on was left behind while the arbiter managed to escape through the portal.
stranded, mc sits down and leans onto the console which cortana was amplified from. he looks down, resigned, while cortana said.
"It's been nice serving with you, John." (John is mc's real name.)
then the halo goes off.
back on earth, a memorial was held for all the dead soldiers. a truce was formed between the remaining covenant non-loyalists and humans. then the arbiter leaves for his home world, together with the covenant.
but mc didn't die! after the credit roll, it is revealed that he and cortana did manage to make it into slipspace but ended in an unknown location in space. cortana drops a distress beacon, but it might be years befor ethey were found. but mc already had plans when cortana revelaed that. climbing into a cyrogenic chamber, he said,
"Call me when you need me."
then, the scene changes. a big time lapse had occured, and half a UNSC destroyer was shown floating towards a planet that looks like earth.
